Walt Disney Studios Feature Writing Fellowship Program What It Is: In 1990, in partnership with the Writers Guild of America, West, The Walt Disney Studios and ABC set out to create a best in class program to increase the diversity of voices in the writing industry. Since then, the Disney/ABC Writing Fellowship has become one of the industry’s best known and most respected writing programs with over 250 alumni among Hollywood’s elite, including screenwriters, directors and television showrunners. In our eighteenth year, we continue the search to discover and employ the most diverse group of creative talent in the country. Annually we offer up to four spots to work full-time as feature writers, develop original content, meet with production and studio execs, participate in and be mentored by program Alumni and other industry greats. How It Works: The Application period for the 2009 Writing Fellowship Program ends August 8, 2008. Writing samples are required. A copy of the Application Form and the Program Letter of Agreement will be made available on the website only during the submission period. At this time, the feature side of the writing program is not open to writing teams. Writers with Writers Guild of America (WGA) credits are eligible. Fellows will each be provided a salary of $50,000 for a one-year period tentatively scheduled to begin in February 2009. How to Apply: For consideration, the application, statement of interest, the Writing Fellowship Program Letter Agreement, writing sample (with proof of current registration with the Writers Guild of America, West or East and/or the Library of Congress), resume and biography, must be submitted together to the contact mailing address listed. There is no application fee. However, your Program Letter Agreement is a legal document and must be signed and notarized and included with your application and submission. Please review the Writing Fellowship Guidelines for additional requirements. You are not required to send in your submission through registered or overnight mail. However, to ensure proof of mailing, you may wish to use these services since we will not confirm receipt of your application package. Finalists are expected to be notified no later than end of December 2008. NO WRITING SAMPLES WILL BE RETURNED: ALL WRITING SAMPLES WILL BE DESTROYED.
